A few years back, people in India were limited to a few numbers of a sports bike with a premium price tag. On the contrary, Bajaj introduced KTM Duke series in India back in 2012. The KTM motorcycle company, however, changed the whole scenario of sports bikes in India. The KTM 390 Duke was launched in 2013 at a price point of 2.02 lakh ex-showroom. KTM 390 Duke was not just an affordable rocket, but also a game-changer bike in the whole Indian motorcycle industry. KTM 390 Duke not only enjoyed great sales, but it has also created a much bigger fan following than any sports bike in India.  KTM 390 Duke nowadays has become every college guys dream.

2020 KTM 390 Duke got a big upgrade in 2017 which included new frame, engine, instrument cluster, brakes, and many more features.

This 390 Duke was similar to its bigger siblings. From then, however, it did not get any of the major updates. KTM called current Duke 390 as ‘The Corner Rocket’, which we believe is true. So what really made the 390 Duke a corner rocket. To know about it read our whole story.

390 Duke Engine

2020 KTM 390 Duke uses lightweight steel trellis frame. And keeping its mass closer to the centre of gravity makes its manoeuvrability very precise and nimble. As said by KTM racing team “braking harder makes you faster”. So to resemble their quote, braking duty of the bike is managed by 320 mm disc at the front and 230 mm disc at rear incorporated with dual-channel ABS.

The key factor of the KTM 390 Duke success, is the Dukes powerful engine.

the 390 Duke is offered with 373.2 cc single cylinder 4 valve liquid-cooled engine, punching with 32 kW / 44 hp at 9000 rpm and 37 Nm torque at 7000 rpm. the claimed economy is 35 Kmpl, but it does return 27 – 30 Kmpl in real-world conditions. Slipper clutch inclusion made the downshifts and throttle response more engaging while riding. Other features of KTM 390 Duke includes the TFT display and nice sounding exhaust note.

2020 390 Duke features

For 2020 Duke 390, there will have an inclusion of new BS6 compliant engine and exhaust manifold. The bi-directional quick shifter will be standard across variants, which was earlier seen on recently launched KTM 390 adventure. The new KTM 390 Duke will get a new colour option (grey colour) and updated graphics. The price hike will be about 5000 Rs, which is not much considering the added features. The new price will start from Rs 2.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The KTM 390 Duke will compete against DSK Benelli TNT 300, Kawasaki Ninja 300. the official announcement will be made very soon by the manufacturer. You can watch our detailed review of KTM 390 Adventure below.
