Chevrolet Spin caught on test in Bangalore

The Chevrolet Spin MPV has been spotted on test in Bangalore as this MPV is due to be launched next year. Chevrolet will be manufacturing this MPV in its Talegaon plant. The production has shifted from GM’s Indonesian plant to Talegaon and even the Halol plant in Gujarat will be shut. The Spin is likely to be named as Essentia.

The Spin MPV will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that will be producing about 90bhp of power and it will be coming with a five-speed manual transmission.

The Chevrolet Spin will be a seven-seater MPV and it will be placed above the Enjoy in the Chevrolet portfolio. The Spin will be competing with the Honda Mobilio and the Renault Lodgy. With this, Chevrolet will have three MUVs in its Indian portfolio, Tavera, Enjoy and Spin (Essentia).

This test mule was spotted in Bangalore by a Team-BHP reader.

The Spin will be coming as an MPV and a SUV as well, where the SUV will be a five-seater and it will be powered by the same engine. This will be competing with the Ecosport and the Maruti YBA. The Spin Activ could be named as Ultiva for the Indian car market and this will be also launched in 2016 along with the Spin (Essentia). This will be priced at about INR 8-11 lakhs (on-road).

Chevrolet will be launching 10 new products in five years and it will also look at doubling its investment for the Indian car market as it will make its new export hub. As the labour cost has cost up in South Korea, GM is shifting its focus from South East Asia to India to make its new manufacturing base.
