The 2020 Tata H2, we haven’t forgotten about it and you shouldn’t too. The micro-SUV concept shown by Tata at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show might be shown in production form this year in February at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car will be getting SUV like proportions and looks at a lower price point than the current stock of sub-four meter SUVs. It is expected to make a production debut later this year but before that, below we highlight its details here before one starts to save for a new budget car. Check out below pictures, videos, details and the 5 things you need to know –

2020 Tata H2 taillights

1) The platform, safety and engine

All new Tata cars and SUVs are going to be based on either the ALFA or OMEGA platform. Bigger cars and SUVs will use the OMEGA platform and cars like the Tata H2 will use the ALFA platform. These new platforms are super safe and have gotten Tata five star ratings for crash tests of cars like the Nexon, which is the safest Indian made car on sale today. The 2020 Tata H2 will be made with a lot of that kept in mind. Tata has already said that cars like the Altroz will be safer. In the engine department, there will be one offering initially – the 1.2-litre engine from the Tiago in a different state of tune. A diesel may not be something that Tata will offer but there will, however, be an option of a five-speed manual and AMT with this car. It might, like the Tiago get two driving modes.

2) Features and Interior

The features offered on the car will not be segment firsts but more like segment best. Tata will try and make sure that this car has ample boot space, best storage solutions and most standard fitments. The Tata H2 will get a big 7.0-inch touchscreen in its top variant with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car will get decent upholstery and possibly automatic climate control. We suspect if the upcoming facelifted 2020 Tiago gets if so should this. Other stuff includes steering mounted controls and keyless entry. The only things that could be a segment-first if Tata decides to go premium would be features like – a sunroof and cruise control.

3) Tata H2 price

The Tata H2 is going to be made with a lot of costs kept in check to make it affordable. This micro-SUV will sit between the Tiago NRG and the Nexon in the Tata SUV line up. Tata is trying to fill the gaps in its portfolio with a configuration and car for every buyer with a budget and need. Tata will thus take it upon themselves to make sure this car is priced from Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs (on-road).

4) 2020 Tata H2 Launch

The Tata H2 is going to be first shown at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo in the month of February. After that, we will see the car be launched in the subsequent months around August or later in the festive season.

5) Tata H2 competition

The micro-SUV place in the Indian market is still being understood and established. The Tata H2 is going to compete with the Mahindra KUV100, the upcoming Hyundai micro-SUV and also price-wise the Maruti Ignis. We will come to know more when the cars come later this year.

We have also made a video on the H2 at the Geneva Motor Show and explained our expectations in the below video.
