The 2020 Maruti S-Cross will need to get a new engine ASAP for it to continue to be on sale after the 1st of April. When the car was launched along with the Nexa brand, it had the option of a 1.

3-litre and 1.6-litre Fiat sourced mill. After the facelift, it received in 2017 there was only one engine option – the 1.3-litre diesel that also is used on the Brezza. People who have experienced the 1.

6-litre engine will remember that the power and performance it offered was really good.

Now recently, images surfaced online of the car being tested for BS6 with a 1.6-litre badge on the boot. This has rekindled the thought among many that Maruti is going to make the 1.6-litre Fiat-sourced engine BS6 compliant. But will that happen? Find out below what we think?

Which engine will the 2020 Maruti S-Cross get?

The Maruti S-Cross was the flagship and first product that the Nexa brand produced. It is, therefore, a very important product. Even though Maruti has products that will move 8,000 – 10,000 units a month, the S-Cross is going to be continued even if manages to go past 1,000 units. There is also another side to the story, Maruti has announced that it will not sell diesel cars from April 2020 unless there is not a significant demand. There is not a significant demand for the S-Cross, so will it be made available with the companies new 1.5-litre petrol engine that also gets a mild hybrid option? That too could be a possibility. Maruti does have it’s own 1.5-litre diesel engine that can comply with BS6 norms and will be a cheaper option too.

2020 Maruti S-Cross facelift side

Maruti will not be updating the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced engine so that is out of the question. The option of a petrol hybrid engine option will be a great one too. It’s still too early to know what will be the engine and gearbox that will finally be offered with the Maruti S-Cross. The S-Cross has always targeted a premium and a select group of buyers for Maruti and maintaining it’s exclusivity is going to be paramount.

2020 Maruti S-Cross Competition and Price

The Maruti S-Cross has always competed with other entry-level premium UVs in the market, namely – Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur. The pricing with a new engine will obviously increase and make the car more expensive.

  • What about brezza diesel with which bsvi diesel engine it will launch
