SUVs are the name of the game in India when buyers plan to buy premium products with a host of first-in-class and standard features. There is one brand, Maruti Suzuki that has recently faced stiff competition from its competition. With Hyundai taking down its only SUVs (Vitara Brezza) segment majority, the brand has to now seriously think about its Maruti Vitara 7-seater.

What is the Maruti Vitara 7-seater?

It is a car under development to take Maruti into the Rs 12 to Rs 17 lakhs range of SUVs.

When it comes, it will be the most expensive Maruti on sale. It will retain the Vitara nameplate with another name that can be attached to it. The car will compete with the upcoming Creta 7 seater, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos and MG Hector. With this car, Maruti will finally have another SUV in its portfolio.

The car is expected to come in 2021 and not before that.

Maruti Vitara 7-seater Design

If were to talk about design and features the car will be heavily inspired by the Brezza and could also borrow some looks of the bigger Grand Vitara. We expect 17-inch tyres, LED headlamps with projectors, keyless entry and a pseudo front and rear off-road fascia. Interiors will be a big step-up in terms of quality and refinement. We will see a new instrument cluster, maybe 360 degrees parking for the first time on a Maruti and dual climate control.

We expect by then the cars that Maruti offers should also get Connected Car features or a better version of the SmartPlay Dock. The third row will also get quite a lot of features and will fold flat.

Maruti Vitara 7-seater will be underpinned on the company’s latest Heatect platform. It will use the new BS6 ready 1.5-litre engine that Maruti has recently got and the 1.5-litre diesel engine too. The petrol will get Maruti’s SHVS technology. The petrol will get a five-speed manual and the diesel will be a six-speed. Maruti could offer a CVT on this car. An AMT at this price point is not something people will want. In terms of safety apart from the standard ABS, 2 airbags and reverse parking camera, we could see stuff like six-airbags, front parking sensors, proximity alert and enhanced safety features with the SmartPlay Dock.

With the Maruti Vitara 7-seater, the brand will step into the premium SUV segment where quality, refinement and value for money are key aspects for buyers. A big SUV will also help Maruti get a new set of buyers in their showrooms. Such a product is most likely to be sold through the brand’s NEXA dealerships.
