Skoda to bring a Creta size SUV in the market by 2021

With a growing demand for 5 seater SUV in the market, Automobile manufacturers have been trying hard to crack the code of this segment. Even though there is a slow down in the automobile industry the SUV market seems to remain unshaken. There are solid contenders in this segment with almost all manufacturers participating in it. Skoda also wants to get a hold of this segment and it has been taking steps in this way. The Skoda Creta size SUV has been under development and the news of it to arrive in the year 2020 has been confirmed.

Skoda will make this vehicle based on the existing platform MQB A0 IN. This platform is specifically for India and it will be shared with another vehicle from Skoda. The details about the vehicle are further ahead in the article. 

Skoda Creta size SUV Launch

The launch of this SUV will be seen around Mid 2020. The vehicle will be a market capture launch for the company and hence the focus will be to make it very feature-packed. The arrival of this vehicle will be pretty late. Launching this vehicle so late will result in the loss of the initial market capture.

Skoda Creta size SUV Price

The price of the vehicle will be around Rs 10 lakhs. At this price point the biggest difficulty will be the combo of engine and feature and where will the compromise and on what. Looking at the company preferences, Skoda will focus more on the features part. At Rs 10 lakh the vehicle will be on the cheaper side of the segment. But this is a speculated price so we will have to wait till there is an official announcement from the company

Skoda Creta size SUV Design

 The design of the vehicle will give the impression of a modern SUV. The vehicle will have a split headlamp and DRL setup. The daytime running lights will be a part of the grille. The headlamp will be placed below it. The grille will be a typical Skoda grill with chrome for the Indian version. The front bumper will get a black cladding which will double as a secondary grille. This will be flanked by faux skidplates which will be finished in brushed aluminum finish.

Moving to the side of the vehicle it gets a shoulder line that continues and merges into the DRL strip. The door handles are places right below the shoulder line. The window glass area is nice and wide thereby making the vehicle feel airy and spacious. The B pillar and the C pillar are blacked along with the upper portion of the D pillar. This gives the feeling of a floating roof. The mirrors are bold and wide.

From the rear, this Skoda vehicle reminds us of the Volvo. It gets swept tail lamps. The exhaust is integrated into the rear bumper which also doubles as a diffuser. The window on the boot is sloping and the window area is also small. As this vehicle does not have a 3rd row of seats this does not cause much of a debate. The vehicle gets roof rails but there is a question if they are functional or nonfunctional.

The interiors of this Skoda will have the timeless class of Skoda vehicles. They will be elite and simple while providing a large number of features. The steering will get mounted controls. This will be a 4 spoke steering. It will have adjustability for rake and reach. The centre console will get a floating infotainment display. To increase storage space on the centre console the vehicle will get an electric parking brake. We expect for India this vehicle might get a dual-tone treatment on the dashboard and seats. The driver’s seat might get an electronic adjustment. Even the interiors will see a lot of chrome treatment wherever possible.

Skoda Creta size SUV Engine

This vehicle is available in the international market with 5 engine options. This same might not translate to its India specific version. The 5 engine options include 1.0 litre petrol engine with manual as well as 7-speed automatic DSG transmission, 1.5 litre petrol with manual 6 speed and 7 speed DSG. The diesel engine also comes with a manual as well as automatic. The vehicle is also offered in CNG variant with the same 1.0 litre petrol engine. What we expect for India would be only the smaller engine option for the petrol variant.

The vehicle will be offered with a slew of features. There might be an option of a sunroof. The interior might get ambient lighting. Along with this, there might be a projector headlamp with a cornering function.

In terms of safety, the vehicle gets ABS which will be paired with the electronic brake distribution system. The vehicle will get 2 airbags at the front. For basic structural strength, there will be the use of higher tensile steel. The safety features will improve on the huger variants.

The major competition will be with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the MG Hector.
