2020 Skoda Rapid has a new engine on its way!

Skoda Auto has revealed its plans for the Indian Markets wherein they will bring in the Kodiaq Scout. With this, they will also have 5 new models which they will launch by 2021. This plan also includes the 2020 Skoda Rapid. The talk about the new generations has been triggered because of a sketch released by Skoda Russia.

2020 Skoda Rapid Launch

The news of the 2020 Skoda Rapid is a relief to Skoda fans. The refresh for this vehicle is highly anticipated. The Skoda Auto and Volkswagen Group have been recently merged into a single entity. This allows the Skoda Rapid to launch or at least it concept to be revealed. The company plans the launch of 2 new SUVs and one compact sedan under its India 2.0 strategy.

2020 Skoda Rapid Price

It’s too early to comment on the price of the vehicle. Currently the 2019 Skoda Rapid is priced at Rs 8.81 lakhs to Rs 14.1 lakhs. The 2020 Skoda will be priced on the same lines. Currently, the vehicle does not have a BS6 engine. Now if a BS6 engine is introduced then the cost of the vehicle will go up by a certain premium. The ex-showroom price of the new Rapid will range from Rs 9 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs. The price might rise even further up if the refreshed version of the vehicle is launched in the year 2020.

2020 Skoda Rapid Engine

The 2020 Skoda Rapid has a 1.6 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre TDI engine. These engines are not BS6 compliant. There is also no news about any new BS6 engine that will replace these engines. This meant that the Rapid was on the verge of discontinuation after the BS6 norms come into effect. The Skoda sales will decline if they discontinue the Skoda Rapid. But now when the Skoda Russia has revealed the sketches of the refreshed Rapid there seems some hope for this vehicle to get replaced with the new Rapid. Talking about the engine parameters specifically this new engine might be a 1.3 litre turbocharged engine. But there is no official statement on this new engine so we can tell anything about the power figures.

2020 Skoda Rapid Design

The 2020 Skoda Rapid will have no drastic changes. Definitely the dimensions of the vehicle will see some changes. From the sketch that has been revealed shows that the vehicle will have an angular headlight. The grille will be a wide and hexagonal grille. The bonnet will get a crease. This is present on the in-production Skoda rapid too. The proportion of the new Skoda Rapid will be balanced. The design will be vibrant. It will be more like evolution and a sharper version of the ongoing Skoda Rapid. The 2020 Skoda Rapid might also look more sporty because of these new design changes.

Skoda states, “The first image of the new ŠKODA RAPID shows balanced proportions, sharp edges and vibrant design elements that emphasize the modern character of the model.” 

Skoda Rapid Mileage

 Now that the engine is new and there is no news on the engine’s power figures. This means that commenting anything on the mileage is difficult. We expect the vehicle to give a mileage of 12 Km/l. This is decent as compared to the sedans in that segment.

2020 Skoda Rapid Platform

Skoda’s launch timeline is still under wraps. Under the India 2.0 strategy, two new SUVs, which are likely to be the Karoq and a sub-4-metre SUV based on the India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform, will also be launched. Apart from the rapid, the other two launches will be model revisions of the Superb and the Octavia. If the Rapid is launched globally before the end of this year, we may get to see it around the 2020 Auto Expo.
