Hyundai 5 lakh SUV will be a vehicle that will the answer from Hyundai as its vehicle in the micro SUV segment. This vehicle will be a well thought and feature-packed vehicle. Hyundai has time to study the market with the Kwid and the S-Presso in the market. This will help them make their product perfect and most importantly price it perfectly. Moreover, this sector of the market asks for value for money products. There can be certain compromise on luxury but the vehicle has to be around the price range of Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 5 lakhs.

Now Hyundai has a product called the Hyundai Curb which it will use as a reference for this vehicle. The Curb is a concept vehicle which looks and feels very futuristic. This might also get displayed at the Auto Expo 2020. With the Hyundai AX micro SUV, the South Korean carmaker will mark its re-entry in the light vehicle space after 19 years of discontinuation of Hyundai Atos. The Atos was a small city car launched back in 1997 in South Korea. In 1999, it received an update and named ‘Atos Prime’ that was introduced in India as Hyundai Santro in 1998. Now that they have reintroduced Santro in the market, This new vehicle will make its line up tighter.

Hyundai AX Launch

Hyundai AX Price

This vehicle will be priced around Rs 5 lakhs. The vehicle’s price range will span from 5 lakhs to 7 lakhs. The car will not compromise on any type of safety. Along with that it will be featured-packed too. All of this will increase its price. The BS6 compliant engine will also add to the cost of the vehicle. If Hyundai decides to introduce a new engine it will be completely a new equation while predicting the cost of this vehicle. The vehicle will be priced from the basic model which will be just a functional car that complies with all the norms. This will rise up to the top model which will be the fully feature-loaded model which makes the best use of the connected technology. The car will have a variant that will appeal to all types of buyers. They will not leave any place from mistakes. As the vehicle is a 5 lakh SUV people will be attracted to buying because of the low price tag. Over this, if Hyundai manages it to give loads of features then it will create some new wave in the market.

Hyundai AX Design

The design of this 5 lakh SUV will be very interesting. The front will have a big and bold stance. This will not look bulky because it will sport sharp lines. What will matter is the type and quality of materials that will be used. The body bumpers might be left black in order to give the vehicle a bolder look and at the same time do some cost-cutting. Another thing about the front will be a big and bold grille. This will host the Hyundai logo that has been made bigger in the new launches. Also, the glass area at the front will be large and sloping. This vehicle won’t be designed like a traditional ladder frame SUV. It will be more of a mix of Hatchback and a monocoque SUV. There will be sloping lines all over the body. Taking cues from the Hyundai Venue the wheel arches will be squared. They will also be cladded with black plastics. Because of the low price Hyundai won’t be able to add a tonne load of features, so the design has to be the USP of the vehicle. This will also mean that the car will take some amount of research to design the vehicle.

Hyundai AX Engine

The engine on this 5 lakh SUV will be is not confirm. It can be either the same unit as used on the Santro but to make the car more lucrative the vehicle will get a new engine that is more torque focussed. A 1.1L naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit producing 69 PS and 10.1 kg.m (99.05 Nm) of torque. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual would be the transmission choices. The engine of this vehicle has to be thought of carefully because if Hyundai is planning the vehicle to be a micro SUV then it has to have some amount of pulling power. The engine also has to be BS6 compliant. This will also take up some of the research planning to bring in a new engine.

To add to the safety of the vehicle will also get the option of curtain airbags at the front.

Hyundai AX Platform

The Korean carmaker is planning two new models which will be underpinned by an advanced version of the all-new K1 platform. The K1 platform has made its debut with the new Santro already. The platform is light in weight, rigid enough to meet the crash requirements in various markets, and is versatile enough to wear several top-hats of varied size and shape – allowing both Hyundai and Kia to use it for various models in different body styles. Hyundai says the K1 platform is 63 percent more rigid than the previous small car platform. It is a modified version of Hyundai-Kia’s SA platform that spawns several compact models for the two brands globally. This includes the Kia Picanto and the current Hyundai Grand/i10. The QX1 subcompact SUV will take on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon when it launches next year.
