The Maruti Ertiga is a really important car for the manufacturer. Now with the new BS6 norms and Maruti’s own decision to stop the use of diesel engines, the Maruti Ertiga 2020 will no longer get a 1.3-litre diesel engine. Maruti has recently launched the XL6 a six-seater version based on the Ertiga model. The Ertiga is a 7 seater and is Maruti’s best selling MPV. This was initially launched as a competition to the Innova and did well for a while but could not beat at fit finish and quality. It was the most affordable MPV when it was launched.

Maruti Ertiga 2020 Price

The price of the Maruti Ertiga currently ranges from Rs 7.55 lakhs to 11.21 lakhs. This price won’t change much as the car already features a BS6 engine. The price of this car will be lesser than the XL6 which is basically the same car in terms of engine and ride. The price of this vehicle is justified for what it offers. But with Renault Triber in the market, the 2020 Maruti Ertiga faces some threat as far as pricing is considered.

The 2020 Maruti Ertiga already gets a BS6 petrol engine. Maruti has decided to discontinue diesel vehicle. So expecting the diesel to come back in the Ertiga is no dream of the near future. They won’t be any change in the engine that exists in the current version. But we expect that the engine gets a turbocharger so that it generates somewhat more power. This is highly unlikely to be seen in a Maruti Vehicle which is usually tuned for mileage. A CNG variant of the car is available in the LXi from Rs 8.8 lakhs. The CNG variant feels very underpowered and needs some improvement. There are some expectations that Maruti will improve their CNG variants and make them more fine-tuned. Although Maruti had decided to do away with the diesel engine, now they feel that this decision of their might get them some losses as other major manufacturers are keeping diesel production on.  There is a concrete demand for diesel engines and therefore we might see some diesel engines by Maruti in the late 2020s

The 2020 Maruti Ertiga from will not get any change in design as such. There is no news of a facelift and the platform on which this vehical is built is also new. This means that the overall design and shape will remain the shape. To add to this Maruti has recently made a cross over version of the vehicle in the name of XL6 so they will not invest time and money in making one more design change to this car. From the side the vehicle has a long wheel base. The car gets a floating roof like treatment. The rear quarter panel merges with the tail lamp. We can see a lot of smooth flowing lines on this vehicle. The handlebars are finished in chrome and merge with a crease that flows through both the doors. Both the door pillars are blackened and this enhances the floating roof characteristic. This also gets blackened allow wheels which can also be seen on the XL6.

The rear of the vehicle remains the same on the XL6 and this might see some change in the 2020 model of the Ertiga. Although this is not sure, we are expecting that Maruti might bring in some change to make a difference in both the cars. Currently, the rear tail lamps have a pulled back feel. They are stretched in 3 different directions. They also extend on the rear tailgate. The grill of the vehicle got a recent update with a new design. The headlights feel like they are a part of the grille. The vehicle gets projector headlamps. There is a lot of chrome on the vehicle and it makes it look premium.

The ride of the vehicle is soft but there is very less body roll. This is because of the HEARTEC platform on which the vehicle is made. The 2020 model does not change in any physical aspect and this means that it will not change any handling abilities. The car behaves like a typical Maruti vehicle.

The interior of the vehicle will be beige in colour. This will give the cabin an airy feel. The car previously got white interiors. It will get a wooden finish for the AC surrounds and on the dashboard. It will get flat-bottom steering which gives a good feel to hold and drive. There are media controls on the steering. The Ertiga does not get cruise control options. The second-row seats get recline option which provides additional comfort to the second-row passengers too. There is an option of armrest from the second row. If it is closed then this row can seat three passengers. All the passengers get headrests in this vehicle.

This vehicle is currently available in 5 colours. There will be more colours added to the line up in 2020. This probably might be the only thing that changes in the vehicle this year.

A far as structural safety is concerned the new car will be made from high tensile steel. This same is used on the XL6. The car will get 2 airbags as standard and there will option to add more. The rear seat will get Isofix child seat mounts. The front-seat passengers will get seat belt warning. There will also be a speed warning after 80 km and will continuously beep after 120 km. The Ertiga will be safer than the previous model for sure.

The Ertiga is tuned for mileage as all Maruti engines are. The Maruti Ertiga will get a well-tuned engine which will give a mileage of around 26 Km/l. This will differ upon driving nature and the vehicle’s condition.

2020 Maruti Ertiga Competition

The Maruti Ertiga 2020 directly competes with Renault’s Lodgy. The Lodgy is a bigger car than the Ertiga. The Renault also offers a more powerful engine with the six-speeded gearbox. The Lodgy has a far bigger boot than the Ertiga and has a bigger fuel tank. There are more features on the Lodgy than the Ertiga. The new car has a lot to rectify and bring back into its favour. The car wins on pricing as the Lodgy is still very expensive. In fact, the Ertiga is still 2 lakh cheaper than the Lodgy. Now even the Triber might seem to steal some sales from the Ertiga in 2020.
