The big three players in the United States of America, namely General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have registered a jump in their September sales as the demand for SUVs and pickup trucks is rising.

While sales in other markets incuding China have been slow, there has been a strong demand for new cars and pick-up trucks in the United States that has been providing a much needed boost to car manufacturers.
Early reports suggest that the total US auto sales have grown to around 14 per cent in September, according to auto industry consultancy Edmunds. Sales also got a boost from the Labor Day weekend coming in September for the first time since 2012. The largest US car maker, GM, said its total sales in September rose 12 per cent to 251,310 vehicles compared with the same month last year.

“The US is adding jobs, disposable income is rising, energy prices and interest rates remain low and business continues to invest, but the fact remains this has been a slow recovery,” as per GM’s chief economist. “The economy still has room to grow and so do auto sales, particularly now that the millennials are entering the workforce and starting households,” he added.
Ford has recorded a total sales increase of 23 per cent to 221,599. Ford branded SUV sales increased 27 per cent, the best in last 12 years, while their trucks sales increased 23.2 per cent.
