New Honda ADV150 – Will is come to India?

This year at the 2019 GIIAS in Indonesia, the covers have come off the new Honda ADV150. An off-road scooter? This is inspired by the big 750cc X-ADV that Honda showed off a few years ago. But if that was too intimidating, here is the ADV150. There isn’t much that would be suitable for Indian road conditions and our riding habits we think. Scooters are popular in our country and traveling from one end of the city to another on patches of bad roads can be as good as off-roading and spending a day on the trails. So why not have a machine that can handle the rough and provide the fatigue-free experience of a scooter. The new Honda X-ADV150 is a great adventure scooter and one we believe that should get a ticket to India.

Honda ADV150 Launch

The Honda ADV150 is not yet planned for India. But do not be dissuaded there is a chance Honda might bring this along with another 150cc scooter to compete with the Aprilia range of performance scooters. Yamaha, Suzuki, Aprilia, Vespa and TVS all have plans to bring bigger capacity scooters to India. The Honda PCX is something to look at too. That along with the new Honda ADV150 will make a new segment in the market. If Honda wants to get this scooter to India, it will be late 2020 after it has a plan to enter this segment.

Honda ADV150 Price in India

The Honda ADV 150 has been priced at IDR 33.5 million (Rs 1.65 lakh, on-road Jakarta) for the CBS trim and at IDR 36.5 million (Rs 1.80 lakh, on-road Jakarta) for the ABS trim. If Honda brings the ADV150 to India, there will definitely be a plan for localization.

There will be multiple applications for the 150cc engine and its platform. This should help bring prices down a bit. These will be a new generation of scooters and represent a new segment.

Honda ADV150 Design

The design as many pointed out online looks like a dressed-up PCX but the AV150 takes a lot of inspiration from the X-ADV, its elder brother. Right from the large front apron, twin LED headlamps and an adjustable windscreen, the neat tail section and the fuel tank lid in the center are in line with the design language of the larger X-ADV. For off-road capability, it also gets an upswept exhaust too.

The instrument cluster is a negative backlit unit and for safety, the Honda ADV150 is supported by the Honda Smart Key and alarm system. Other key features include adjustable windscreen, LED headlight, 28-liter under-seat storage and DC charger.

Honda ADV150 Dimensions

Measuring 1,950mm long, 763mm wide and 1,153mm high, the ADV150 matches the Aprilia SR150 the Aprilia in length and height, but it is a much wider adventure scooter.

Honda ADV150 Specifications

Just like Honda’s PCX, this gets a 149.3cc SOHC single-cylinder engine with Idling Stop System. It produces 15bhp at 8500rpm and 13.

8Nm at 6500rpm. It works in conjunction with a variomatic transmission.

The suspension includes telescopic forks at the front and twin Showa gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. Unlike the spoke wheels on the X-ADV, the wheels on this scooter are alloys, measuring 14 inches up front and 13 inches at the rear. The wheels are shod with dual-purpose tyres (110-section front and 130-section rear).

Brakes are petal discs at both ends with a single-channel ABS or CBS.

For an off-road scooter, if the ABS is a connected unit and cannot be switched off, it will be a drawback.

Honda ADV150 Competition

As of now internationally, in other ASEAN and European markets, this scooter will face a lot of completion, but if Honda gets it hers, there is only the Aprilia SR150 to compete with.
