The new-gen VW Polo is still far off. The German automaker will, however, need to revive it’s Polo and Vento options in the market. This will be the last ever update on the current Polo. This hatchback has been made available in India since 2010 and it will be getting its last and final refresh. In the previous update, it came up with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, which replaced the 1.2-litre one. At the moment, the 1.0-litre petrol and 1.2-litre turbo petrol are available. There are rumours that the Polo might get the 1.0-litre turbo petrol soon. We aren’t certain of this. There are some updates we are aware of, which the Polo will get. We share all the details with you about the VW Polo 2019 and also some spy shots of the car shared with us by our reader, Gaurav who spotted the car under testing.
Will the new engine be powerful? Will it have a new design? Stay tuned to know more about the updates for the Polo 2019. Also, scroll down to check out the various spy shots of the car being tested.
VW Polo 2019 Price in India
Expect the price of the new VW Polo 2019 to be about Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs (ex-showroom). This doesn’t include the GT range. The GT will be about Rs 1 lakh more than the top model, so about Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 10.5 lakhs without any taxes. This will make it an exciting package, especially if the 1.0-litre turbo petrol makes its way. Else, the 1.0-litre petrol isn’t the most exciting engine to have.

VW Polo 2019 Launch
We expect the new engine to come close to the festive season in India. Volkswagen will want to give the car some new features as well before the all-new generation Polo and Vento come in 2020 and 2021.

VW Polo 2019 Exterior
Do not expect a major change in the design of the updated Polo. It will have the same dimensions, but the front grille is likely to be borrowed from the European version (new-gen Polo) and the headlamps shall be similar. The front bumper design will be revised. The side profile will not see any change. It will be offered with the same 16-inch tyres, with a new design for the alloy wheels. The other new bit on the Polo 2019 is that it will be coming to a minor tweak to the rear. The tail lamps are visible in the image. These images were clicked by our viewer Gaurav Joshi.
The GT TSI and the regular Polo will have a higher differentiating factor this time. At the moment, the changes are very subtle, now it will be more prominent. This will enhance the sales of the GT, and it seems to be a move taken after getting feedback from buyers. We reckon the front grille will be a lot different on the GT family.
VW Polo 2019 Features
We do not expect any major change in the variants of the VW Polo 2019. It already well features loaded. It gets a seven-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and an optional reverse camera. There is climate control, rear AC vent and two airbags. If we look at the features that will be made available on the Polo 2019, compared to 2018 – there is no difference. The only new addition will be speed warning and even co-driver seat belt warning.
There are steering mounted audio controls and even cruise control. Volkswagen is offering this hatchback with good quality materials. The dashboard design won’t change, and shall be the same it has been since 2010. In terms of space, the front seats are wide and supportive. Tall people can sit comfortably and travel without any issue for an entire day. The rear seat of the Polo is cramped and not much of space is left for rear passengers. This makes it difficult for longer trips. The boot space is also just fine for a road trip. VW has built an exciting product for the Indian car market and the Polo is one of them.
VW Polo 2019 Engine and Transmission
|Engine||1.0-litre turbo petrol|
As far the petrol engine goes, there shall be a 1.0-litre engine. This is expected to be turbo petrol. So, the pricing will see an increase in this engine. The transmission along with it shall be six-speed manual. The diesel engine will run in its last leg. VW will discontinue the diesel engine as we inch closer to April 2020. The 1.5-litre diesel comes with 90 bhp and five-speed manual on the Polo at the moment.
The GT TSI is also likely to get the 1.0-litre turbo, with a higher state of tune. This will make it a powerful option and there shall be a lot of options as well. There is a good possibility of the 1.2-litre turbo petrol cycle ending as VW will be working towards getting one turbo petrol engine mostly. At the moment, there is no clarity about this. There is a good possibility that the company will want to make one engine for affordably priced cars.
VW Polo 2019 Mileage
Mileage is important for this segment. The diesel has been one of the finest for mileage. However, we aren’t certain of the diesel’s future. The engine should return about 14-19km/l depending on city and highway. The other bit that is important is the petrol engine. The new petrol engine should return about 12-14km/l, but we will have to wait for it to come to the market.
VW Polo 2019 Competition
The Polo was a premium hatchback against the i20, but that segment has seen an increase in its length. Today it competes with the Ford Figo, Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10 in interior space. In terms of pricing, there is an overlap with the Baleno, Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the upcoming new Tata Altroz. There are SUVs like Nexon, Vitara Brezza and even the Venue that come in the same price point too.
