It seems an electric version of a product is the new trend that everyone is jumping on. The trend does not only limit itself to cars and bikes. Bitten by the electric bug is the countries leading three-wheeler manufacturer – Bajaj. The government is pushing big time for electric vehicles and Bajaj does not want to be left out. An electric rickshaw will be a boon for rickshaw owners and passengers likewise. The maintenance, running costs and comfort levels will become better. A quiet rickshaw is an amazing idea. Below we have spotted the three-wheeler testing in full camo. The rickshaw’s electric powertrain, features, interior and other details are still not out and it’s too early to predict those things. We do see a new type of wheel in these spy shots. It looks to have an electric motor fitted to its rims. Just like an electric scooter’s rear wheel. Bajaj Electric Rickshaw Launch

The Electric Rickshaw by Bajaj has just started its testing process. The rickshaw in the spy shots looks like it’s in its initial stages of development. We expect the product ready for a unveil or launch only next year. The Bajaj Electric Rickshaw will be launched in 2020.

Bajaj Electric Rickshaw Price

The price of this the Bajaj Electric Rickshaw is too early to predict. The price will be higher than the regular IC version of this product. It should not exceed the price of Bajaj’s own quadricycle – the Bajaj Qute.

Bajaj Electric Rickshaw Design

The design is not going to stray away too much from a normal rickshaw. There will be no great design changes see here. We will though see some details added, like LED headlamps, a digital instrument cluster and a new seat design. There will be more space too. The storage spaces might be better – storage under the driver’s seat and behind the passenger’s seat. There will be added convenience features like charging sockets and a digital display for the passengers.

Bajaj Electric Rickshaw Specifications

Powering the Electric Rickshaw will be a set of lithium-ion batteries connected to an electric motor. We do not have any specs for this motor yet, but we can say one this – it will be quiet, have instant acceleration from a standstill, like most electric vehicles it will be an automatic and most importantly – it will have a decent range. The electric rickshaw will also need to charge quickly. This means Bajaj will work on some kind of technology where they will have the batteries configured to be removable. Charging time will also need to be quick. They will be charging stations dedicated to charging up the batteries like they are now for CNG rickshaws.
