Tata Harrier Automatic to come next year
Tata Motors is not wasting any time in getting new cars and variants to the market. The manufacturer is going to get cars like the 45X and the Harrier 7 seater next year. By the time we get the Harrier 7 seater, we will also get the Tata Harrier Automatic. The automatic will fulfil the demand of customers in this premium end of the market. The car is very important for customers that are straying away from the Harrier because of the unavailability of an automatic gearbox.
So what will be the specs of this gearbox? When will it come? And how much should we expect the price to be?
Tata Harrier Automatic Launch
The Tata Harrier Automatic will launch in the coming next year. This is because by that time even the engine will be BS6 compliant.

The automatic variant of the flagship SUV could be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo as well. It was expected to be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, now we could see the domestic launch in April. This could be then followed up by the launch of the petrol engine with an automatic and manual gearbox. It will be early 2020 when it will be coming in.
The timeline set for the Harrier Automatic is too late. We think that in the meanwhile the MG Hector which will also have the Jeep Compass engine, more features and will be a bigger car can be an interesting alternative. The Hector will also get a petrol engine at the time of launch, it will also get automatic transmissions for both gearboxes. To know more about the MG Hector – click here

Tata Harrier Automatic Specifications
Tata will source the automatic transmission for the Harrier from Hyundai. This six-speed torque converter will be the same as the Hyundai Creta. This gearbox will come mated to the same 2.0-litre engine sourced from the Jeep Compass. The Harrier automatic will get three driving modes – Eco, City and Sport. It will also get terrain response modes such as Normal, Wet and Rough.
This said Tata has still been tight-lipped about the Harrier 4×4. An automatic version for every engine and obviously a petrol engine itself will help the car serve a wider customer base. We aren’t certain if there will be an AWD/4WD version for the Harrier. There is an automatic in the making and it will be launched in a year’s time.

Tata Harrier AMT or Automatic?
Tata Harrier will be an automatic not an AMT. So, those claiming it to be Harrier AMT – it will be an automatic. The AMT name stands for automated manual transmission and is partial automatic. It is suitable for cars under Rs 10 lakhs, while for the higher pricing there is automatic. Automatics are known as torque converters for many. This makes it an exciting package to consider. This is a Hyundai automatic gearbox.

I Wish Tata to add the following features without fail because many customers like me will be very happy to buy a car, if loaded with the following features.
1) 360 degree good quality rear view camera
2) Front Parking Sensor
3) Rear Disc brakes
4) Auto dimmed IRVM
5) Tyre Pressure Monitoring system
Just because, I don’t have an automatic option, I am keeping myself away from Harrier. The biggest restriction is
Tyre pressure monitoring system and parking camera will be an added advantage.
