Mahindra Scorpio 2019 – is it the year of the new SUV?

All-new Mahindra Scorpio – this will be an all new SUV for the Indian car market. The Indian utility vehicle maker has been making big strides with multiple new launches. The company has got the Marazzo, then the Alturas and now the XUV300. All these will be adding more to its portfolio. Mahindra as a brand is looking at adding more modern-day products apart from the utilitarian ones that make most of its portfolio.

The Scorpio’s new-generation will make an important upgrade for the vehicle. This time around, the company will be looking at adding a product that has good features, specifications and even performance too. The Scorpio 2019 will be manufactured in India, but has been designed and developed by Mahindra international R&D centres in North America, South Korea and even Pininfarina has designed it. Mahindra Scorpio 2019 Launch Date

Expect the new-generation Mahindra Scorpio to come in by late 2019 or early 2020. This is when the timeline for the BS-VI norms will be just arriving and even the new crash norms be in. The current SUV hasn’t been able to make a huge dent in urban car buyers and most of them are sold in rural parts of the country. The Indian auto brand will be looking at getting a new fresh design.

Mahindra Scorpio 2019 Price in India

There will not be a lot of deviation from the current Scorpio in pricing. But the BS-VI norms and the new safety norms will see an increase of about 10% in the pricing. The new Scorpio shall be priced somewhere in the range of Rs 11-19 lakhs (on-road). The current Scorpio top model is about Rs 17.5-18 lakhs already. Hence, we will not expect much of a change in its pricing.

Mahindra Scorpio 2019 Design

In terms of design, the Mahindra Scorpio will see a radical change. The new vehicle will have the Scorpio DNA, but it will be a complete revolution. Mahindra Scorpio from 2001 to 2018 hasnt seen a major change in its design. The dimensions too are the same. This time it will not be the case. The company is looking at upgrading the Scorpio with a lot more features, new design elements and even styling will be contemporary.

Expect the seven-slat grille, projector headlamps with LEDs, 17-inch wheels, roof rails and even LED tail lamps. The ground clearance will be about 200mm at least and the rugged look will be there. It is a bit too early to come to any conclusion at the moment. There will be a ladder frame on offer and even 4WD will be available too. The company will not go away from the Scorpio DNA.

Mahindra Scorpio 2019 Features

As this will be an all new SUV, we can expect the new SUV to have better knee room for second row of passengers. In terms of space, this will be a seven-seater. However, this time the third row is expected to have front facing seats. There will be dual airbags and ABS + EBD as a standard feature. The new Scorpio will be coming with a range of features that will make it an exciting package.

2019 Mahindra Scorpio Engine and Transmission

There shall be a 2.0-litre diesel engine on offer. This will churn about 140bhp of power and will be offered with six-speed manual transmission. The petrol shall be a 2.2-litre one and it will produce close to 140bhp too. This will be coming with six-speed manual and auto boxes. The Mahindra brand will getting these engines that will be BS6. The current 2.2-litre mHawk will be modified for this. The petrol engine also will be going through the same. Both these engines will come with automatics. However, the 4WD will be offered on manual  and diesel mostly. The automatic transmission will skip the 4WD version. There shall also be an electric version in the making too. The Indian utility maker is leading the market in electric technology and will not miss an opportunity to get the latest electric vehicle for Indian audiences.

2019 Mahindra Scorpio Mileage

Expect the diesel to return close to about 9-11km/l for the manual and about 10% lesser for the automatic. The petrol should be about 7-8km/l. The new Scorpio might be lighter, as the current one is a lot heavy and this should even help to enhance the mileage.
