Tata has been pumping out products faster than the competitors have had a chance to contar them. The Nexon AMT, the Nexon petrol, the facelifted Tigor, the JTP twins and now the Harrier. There is no stopping Tata it seems. Next year we know that the 45X and the Harrier will take center stage and share it with a facelifted Tiago. But there is something else too. Recently, Pratap Bose, Head of Design at Tata Motors expressed his feeling about working on a 2019 Tata Sumo. This coming from a high ranking Tata official is very exciting. If this is the case do read further and find out what features and specifications we think will make it to the car.

2019 Tata Sumo History

The Sumo came in the early 90s when India started seeing a boom in the economy. There was a need of a solid people carrier in the market and Tata had already made vehicles like the Telcoline. So having some experience in making cars that can be used for work and play, the company then forayed into the MUV, people mover segment. The car was an instant hit with people from all walks of life. The army was buying it, the government and private sector brought the car to transport people, it was used as an ambulance and the car was also used by the police in many states. The car was used also the first big car purchase for many Indian families. The car got a much needed facelift in the 2000s with the Sumo Victa and later on with the Sumo Gold. The cars design was brought into the 21st century with the Sumo Grande which was later rebadged as the Movous.

2019 Tata Sumo Launch

While there could be a chance that Tata announces this product in the middle of next year. The final product will be launched mostly in 2020. The car will be reintroduced as a people mover. It could be a good move by Tata as the Mahindra Bolero’s days are numbered and will be discontinued soon.

2019 Tata Sumo Price

Before the Ertiga, Lodgy and the Marazzo; people movers like the Tata Sumo existed. The car is going to come back in the existing price range of these new MUVs. The Tata Sumo will be priced between rs 10 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs.

2019 Tata Sumo Specifications

The Sumo will be based on Tata’s new Omega Architecture for SUVs. The car will be made using technologies from Jaguar and Land Rover too. While this is way too early to comment on the spec of the engine we can say for sure that there will be a Varicor400 engine. Tata will not use the old 2.2-litre engine or the 3.0-litre engine which comes in the Yodha pick-up truck.

2019 Tata Sumo Design and Interiors

The interiors will not be spartan or rough around the edges like the older cars. The new humanity grille might come on this car. We will see a lot of the IMPACT 2.0 design elements on the car. The boxy and butch design will be retained. The interiors will come with a lot of new inserts, The 8 speaker system from JBL and the ConnectNext system touchscreen will be seen here too. The fabric and the seats will be more comfortable and nice.
