Two employees of Delhi Transport Corporation were killed and a few others were injured after a bus rammed into another while racing each other. This accident lead to more mishaps and a pile-up, on the Anand Vihar road near Ramprastha Crossing on Monday evening. Two autorickshaws and motorbikes were also crushed in the incident.

The autorickshaw was caught between the two buses. The below picture paints a very gruesome image of the accident. The drivers of both buses fled from the scene after the incident.

The incident happened on the road number 56 when four buses rammed each other, crushing two autorickshaws and two bikes in-between. The dead were identified as Rupender Kumar and Satish Kumar.

A passenger of an autorickshaw and a motorcycle rider have been admitted to the GTB hospital where they are battling for their lives.

Accident Cause

Police say that the pile-up allegedly began when a private bus, started competing with a school bus, rammed it from behind while trying to overtake it from the left side. The school bus, which was returning with kids, rammed into a UP roadways bus which eventually rammed into a DTC bus. Police said that fortunately, none of the children suffered any injuries.

A early probe suggests that the chartered bus was driving at a speed of more than 80kmph. Police said some of the other injured travelling in the bus have admitted themselves to private hospitals for treatment. The eyewitness accounts of the bystanders are being recorded to establish the sequence of events.

Police action and publics account

A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against the drivers of both the buses. The bodies of the two men have been sent for an autopsy.

Locals have said that allegedly the stretch remains empty during the day, due to which buses heading towards Ghaziabad tend to speed up and race each other. CCTV footage of cameras in the area is also being scanned.
