MG Motor has announced today in Shanghai that the Chinese auto maker will be launching an all new SUV for the Indian car market starting early 2019. The MG brand, which is owned by SAIC in China has been successfully launched once again in UK market and is being made available in other markets too.

The strategy for India is simple, introduce new products that shall be highly localised.

MG Motor will be launching a C-segment SUV in India by first half of 2019. The company had bought over the Halol plant from GM India in September 2017. It seems they are ready to get a lot of work done and invest heavily in India. Many-a-times, the SAIC Chinese SUV has been spotted doing rounds in China. The new MG Motor SUV will be offered with a range of features and specifications, for the Indian car market. The new SUV will have a petrol and even a diesel engine as well. At the moment, the company hasn’t revealed the specifications, It is rumoured that the MG SUV will have a 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Fiat brand. The Jeep Compass engine shall be used by MG for the SUV, and the power ratings should be similar – 170bhp and 350Nm of torque with six-speed manual and auto.

Things don’t end here, MG has also announced the launch of an electric vehicle in a year’s time after the launch of the SUV.

The company has confirmed it will be a pure electric vehicle, not a hybrid version. The Chinese automaker will be localising its product up to 75% to begin with. The Indian car market will soon have new players like MG Motor and Kia Motors that will be making a major launch for the Indian car market.
