The VW Polo GTI has been testing in India for some time now and also has been spotted on various occassions. Now VW has showcased the car at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show. The car is expected to be launched in India next year.

VW has been very active in the racing scene in India with the acclaimed Polo Cup.  Its racing heritage was brought to the Indian streets with the Polo GT TSI and is now aiming at going further with the Polo GTI. The VW Polo GTI is fitted with a 1.8-litre TSI engine that delivers 190 bhp and 320 Nm of torque and it mated to  a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. The same engine is found on the Skoda Octavia and it beltes out t 180 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Whether the exact performance tune will come to India is yet unknown.

Externally, the VW Polo GTI has a honeycomb-mesh grille with red garnish on the grille and extending to the headlamps. It also features LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, dual exhausts and a prominent GTI badging. The interiors have aluminium pedals, Sports seats with seat fabric inspired by the Golf GTI  a sporty steering wheel and an armrest for the driver.

The Polo GTI will take on the soon to be launched Abarth Punto, by Fiat,  which will be coming with 145bhp of power.
