The TVS Apache has been quite a popular bike with motorcycle enthusiasts and now the company is all set to launch a higher capacity, 200cc version of this sportsbike. The Apache 200 will compete with the KTM Duke / RC 200 and the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. The RTR series has always been targeting racing enthusiasts and this will be even faster and more fun. The Apache 200 will be priced at INR 97,900 (on-road).
Apache 200cc has its design inspired from the Draken concept. It will be based on the ‘RTR’ platform that also underpins the TVS Apache 160 and 180. The Apache 200 will be powered by a new 200cc, fuel-injection, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. It is built on the existing 180cc engine and will deliver power in excess of 20bhp. The bike will sport the new Michelin soft compound tyres that will provide improved road grip. It will have front and rear disc brakes alongwith a Combi braking system and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
The single-cylinder 197cc motor is essentially a bored out (and thoroughly revised) version of the one found in the Apache 180. This version is oil-cooled (with ram-air trick-technology), the Apache RTR 200 4V is available as both carburettor and EFI variants. TVS is aiming for usable power and has tuned the motorcycle for best performance in the 2000-7000 rpm range. So, there is sufficient torque at most of the engine speeds.
TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is priced at INR 97,900 for the base, carburetted variant. The EFI + Pirelli tyre version will be offered from INR 1.17 lakhs(on-road, Delhi). The range-topping, dual-channel ABS equipped variant shall arrive at a later stage and will be priced from INR 1.26lakhs. Both variants do the zero-sixty in 3.9 seconds, with the ton coming up in 12.1 seconds. The max speed on the EFI variant is 2 km/hr higher at 129 km/h, while the carburettor version’s top speed is 127km/hr.
The Apache RTR 200 4V does look stylish and stands out when compared to its other RTR siblings. The 200 RTR 4V has a length of 2050mm, with a width of 790mm. The wheelbase is 1353mm and its height is 1105mm. TVS have given the Apache RTR 200 4V a 180mm ground clearance and a kerb weight of 148 kg with half a kilogram extra for the fuel-injection version.
