Fiat India is considering 500X to be launched by mid-2016. So, is the brand considering introducing this new crossover for the Indian car market? The 500X has been made on the Small US Wide 4×4 architecture, which has been evolved from GM Fiat Small platform, which is also manufactured in India for the Punto Evo and Linea.

Fiat since its merger with Chrysler has also increased its workforce in India. The Ranjangaon plant in Pune has seen an increase in its R&D team by about 2000% as till 2012, the team was about 30 members, now it is close to 700 people. The company isn’t just developing products for the Jeep brand but even for Fiat. The Fiat 500X can be a good crossover to get in India as this will come with an engine of 1.3-litre multijet and even the new 1.5-litre multijet. For petrol, there will be the 1.4-litre turbo petrol with 120bhp of power. This will be in the Creta segment and at the moment is is one of the fastest growing segments. This will be priced between INR 11-16 lakhs (on-road) and it will be more of a direct competition to the S-Cross.

Fiat 500X

Fiat India has been focusing on getting Abarth and the Jeep brand to India, but at the same time it doesn’t even wants to lose out the Fiat brand products. The 500X is manufactured in Italy along with the Jeep Renegade, and this is something we can expect to happen in India as well. Fiat is considering the product as it is based on similar platforms that will be manufactured in India and as the as a 4×4 platform, Fiat will be utilising it to make the new Jeep model also.
