Maruti Suzuki is planning a major revamp of its best sellers – Swift and Swift Dzire.

The duo have been leading the sales charts for long and also keeping competition at bay, however, going ahead and still being competitive will require major steps to be taken from the leader of the passenger car industry.

Apart from Swift and Swift Dzire, the Ertiga MPV too will get a major upgrade with new engine options. The new generations of the hatchback and compact sedan, codenamed YSD, are likely to be launched in late 2017 with an annual potential of 4.5 lakh units. The new Ertiga, codenamed YHA, is expected to brought out in early 2018, which may have an annual potential of 80,000 units.

The Swift and Dzire will also get Suzuki’s indigenously built 1.5 litre diesel engine (codenamed E15A) and also the existing Fiat sourced 1.

3 litre diesel engine coupled with the hybrid technology –  SHVS, which was recently launched in the Ciaz. Similarly, The Ertiga will get a new 1.

4 litre petrol engine (K14C) and also the 1.5 litre diesel engine. As per ETAuto, a company source said, “These new generation models are developed keeping in mind the new regulations (crash, safety, emission norms) planned by the Indian government. The vehicles will get much lighter under the new architecture, thereby helping the company further improve fuel efficiency and will get an attractive design then before, which many consider will help Maruti Suzuki to further strengthen its position and share of the market.”

The Swift, Swift Dzire and Ertiga have been outselling their competition by a big margin and Maruti would like to continue this winning streak, going in to the future as well. The company understands that this will call for major changes to the products, to keep them going the way they are right now.
