The production version of the Fiat Aegea has been spotted without any camouflage. The Aegea concept was showcased by Fiat in Turkish Motor Show in Istanbul on 21st May. The Aegea will be new-generation sedan from Fiat and it will be replacing the Linea, while the hatchback version of it will be replacing the Punto.

The Aegea will sport a 1.4-litre T-JET petrol engine and for diesel it will have the 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre multijet diesel engine options, depending upon the markets.

The Fiat Aegea will be initially sold in 40 markets, which include the Middle East, Africa and Europe. A right hand drive variant for markets like the UK and Australia is being planned too. FCA is not firmed up the Aegea for the Indian market yet and is still contemplating on a suitable replacement for the Linea. However, the Aegea is not completely ruled out as an option.

The Aegea is based on Fiat’s new compact car family and it will be manufactured in the company’s Turkish plant. The compact family will have a production capacity of 700,000 units, majority of which will be exported. The Aegea will be a frugal and practical sedan, somewhat on the lines on the Fiat Panda. Features in the car will be as per customer needs and unnecessary add-ons will be avoided, thereby keeping the price of the car in check.

Fiat is betting high on the Aegea, that may be a turn around product for the company in the fiercely competitive environment as the group – FCA also is trying to revamp other products in its global portfolio.
