Allessandro Del Piero - Vespa Urban Legend

Piaggio’s Vespa augmented their Indian line-up of trendy scooters with two new models – the Vespa SXL and the Vespa VXL in Mumbai yesterday. Launched in both, 125cc as well as 150cc versions, the latter engine option marks the beginning of the 150cc scooter segment in India.

Unveiled by Alessandro Del Piero, the legendary Italian footballer and Vespa Brand Ambassador, both the Vespa SXL and the VXL get a new front look, seats, alloy-wheels, broader tires and a disk-brake setup at the front.

Known for their trendy colour options, the new models follow in the same footsteps of their predecessors and come in shades such as Azure Blue, Matt Black, Maze Grey and Green, apart from the standard Red, White, Yellow, Black and Orange.

Power figures are closely matched, with the 125cc motor churning out 10.5 Bhp and 10.6 Nm torque; while the larger, 150cc motor churns out 11.4 Bhp and 11.5 Nm torque. Both engines share the same (Continuously Variable Transmission) CVT transmission and sport a three-valve, single-cylinder air-cooled configuration.

The larger capacity engine develops its power and torque at slightly lower down the range, than its smaller sibling.

The 125cc Vespa VXL is priced at INR 85000/- while the Vespa SXL powered by the same engine is expected to cost INR 89,000/- The 150cc variants are expectedly priced higher, starting with the VXL150 at INR 91,000/- and the SXL150 topping the range at INR 97,500/-
