Peugeot 208 spotted in India again

The newly launched Peugeot 208 had landed in India a couple of years back, when we were the first to bring this news you. The company has commenced testing of its new hatchback. Peugeot had plans to enter India a few years ago when they had tested the 208 and the 508 sedan as well. The company had pulled out of the country, as Europe’s economy was affected back then. This time PSA group (Peugeot) has partnered with CK Birla group and will manufacture cars in their Chennai facility. Let’s have a look at the Peugeot 208 hatchback, which is expected to be PSA’s introductory model in India.

This same hatchback has been spotted on several occasions on test in Tamil Nadu. The PSA Group is looking at setting up its plant in Tamil Nadu itself. Initially, there were rumours that Peugeot could be looking at Gujarat and that was the initial plan as the Peugeot test mules came to India through the Navi Mumbai port itself. At the moment, the company seems to be evaluating, which should be the ideal products for the Indian car market. The company is coming in JV with Hindustan Motors, a brand that is one of the oldest car brands in India. The only unfortunate bit of HM is its history, which doesn’t say much about its strong points apart from the Ambassador, which was sold for many years without any major changes.

Peugeot 208 Price

The Peugeot 208 is expected to be priced between INR 7 lakhs to INR 10 Lakhs, on-road. This premium hatchback will want to establish itself as a worthy competitor to the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno. Peugeot will need to be careful about the pricing, in order to attract new buyers. It might be a bit early to state if this is a good price, but the company is looking at having a highly localised product. This will help them to reduce the initial cost and even the servicing shall be affordable too.
