Mahindra has plans to launch the S101 in the second half of 2016, as per the company officials.

The S101 is a crossover or a micro-SUV (as Mahindra calls it) and it will be targeting first-time car buyers. However, these will be the youth or those who are recently married. The S101 will be somewhat a new segment, as it will be of the size of the Ritz with higher ground clearance. It will be a modern crossover, with high ground clearance with a small footprint, to make it easy to drive and park in congested cities. It will be a six-seater and with seating for three at the front and at the back. The CUV100 (the likely name for the S101) will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and a newly developed 1.2-litre diesel engine as well. The CUV100  or XUV100 will be made available with an AMT (automated manual transmission) option too. We can expect other automakers to also enter this segment.

The S101 will be smaller than the TUV300 and the Quanto facelift.

It will get daytime running lamps and will ABS and dual airbags on the top-of-the-line variant.

The CUV100/ XUV100 will be Mahindra’s first crossover and will be priced between INR 6.5-9.5 lakhs (on-road).
