Yamaha R3 spotted days before launch
Yamaha India couldn’t have timed the launch of their R3 sports bike better. Generating a fair bit of interest in the run-up to launch day, this is the Tuning Fork’s reply to the burgeoning competition in the quarter-liter sports bike segment. Sporting a twin-cylinder configuration, other tech-specs include a heady 14,000 rpm red-line with 42 Bhp and a torque figure of 29.2 Nm, the R3 is going to need all that fire power it can get. After all, it’ll be doing battle against KTM-Bajaj’s RC390 and Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, both, seriously fast motorbikes and highly respected by the consumers. Not to mention the fact that there’ll be a third competitor in the fray, whenever Honda decides to bring in the 300cc CBR.
What gets our goat is that the R3 has been spotted with a saree-guard that’s not doing any justice to the Yamaha’s aesthetics. While we understand regulatory compliance with governmental guidelines, we certainly feel that Yamaha could have done a better job with the saree-guard design. Little wonder then that Tuning Fork fans are crying foul over the eyesore.
The Yamaha R3 could usher in a host of high-performance motorcycles from the manufacturers international portfolio and we’ve got our fingers crossed over launches in the near future.
