Mahindra is likely to name its S101, the micro SUV as CUV100 or XUV100 as we had stated earlier.

However, it is a bit too early to come to a conclusion. Mahindra has even been considering Nuvosport as a name for this new micro SUV that the Indian automaker is planning to launch this year.

The Mahindra S101 will be smaller than the TUV300 and the U215 (Quanto facelift). Both these will be ladder-frame sub 4-metre SUVs, while the S101 will be even smaller. This will be somewhat similar to the Hyundai i20 Active or the Fiat Avventura, maybe even a bit smaller. Mahindra will targeting this for first-time car buyers, who need good ground clearance and something nimble to drive and park in congested cities and towns.

Mahindra will be launching the S101 with a 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options.

The 1.2-litre diesel will be a new engine developed from scratch and this will be a three-cylinder engine. This engine has a four-cylinder version too, which will be used on the Ssangyong Tivoli. The diesel will come with an AMT (automated manual transmission) option as well.

This micro SUV will have two rows of seating and the first row, might be even able to seat three (as it will be more of a bench).

Mahindra might not be offering too many goodies on this micro SUV (or crossover) and it will be priced between INR 4.5-8.5 lakhs (on-road pricing). Mahindra will not be overlapping with the S101 on other two SUVs, widening its portfolio and customer base.
