Hyundai has launched the new Creta today and now the Korean auto maker will be introducing a new MPV next year. This new MPV codenamed as “IP” will be launched next year and will be based on the Grand i10 platform.

Hyundai is also considering a compact SUV as well (which will be under 4 metres and will be a direct competitor to the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti YBA).

Hyundai today revealed that it will be introducing the new MPV sometime next year. The Hyundai’s MPV will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol and 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engine options. It will also be getting a diesel automatic too. Hyundai doesn’t have a single MPV for the Indian car market and it is now preparing to enter this segment with its next new product.

As demand for UVs in on the rise, there will be a major chunk for MUVs too, and Hyundai will not want to miss out on that.

Hyundai has already introduced the Elite i20, which was a game changing product for the segment. Now, it is confident of doing something similar with the Creta too.

The MPV could be the third product that Hyundai will be willing to spend that extra buck on. The Hyundai MPV will be competing with the Maruti Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio. This will be priced between INR 7.5-11.5 lakhs (on-road). Hyundai has been wanting to have an MPV in India for a long time. It had also showcased the HexaSpace concept back in 2012 Auto Expo.
