We earlier reported you that 2016 next-generation Toyota Fortuner is all set to make its grand debut on 17th July 2015 in Thailand.

Now, we have learnt about the variants and features of the new SUV. For those asking, new Toyota Fortuner wouldn’t be launched in India before March 2016. Toyota India would also launch the new-generation Innova in the Indian market next year, while it makes its debut in Thailand a few month later.

Talking about the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, it would have distinct exterior styling, re-worked ladder-frame chassis, up-market interiors and all-new ‘GD’ diesel engines. According to the report, the Thai-spec Fortuner would be available in two diesel and one petrol engine. The diesel engines doing duties would be the newly-developed GD series’ 2.4-litre, four-cylinder motor and a bigger 2.8-litre, four-cylinder powerplant. The company would also offer the Fortuner SUV with a petrol heart in Thailand, unlike India.

The petrol engine at the helm would be a 2.7-litre, four-cylinder VVT-i unit.

These engines would be paired with six-speed manual as well as automatic transmissions, and hence there would be a total of five variants: 2.

4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×4 6AT, and a 2.7V 4×2 6AT.

The range-topping 2.8V variant would feature 4X4 drive system, while rest of the variants would have a RWD configuration. Speaking about the India-spec model of new Toyota Fortuner, it would be presented with the more powerful 2.8-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, which would churn out 177bhp of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque. The SUV would have come loaded with an array of premium safety features like Smart Key System with Keyless Entry, an engine Start/Stop Button, knee airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, Hill Assist Control (HAC) and an emergency light system. The new iteration of India-bound Fortuner, like the current-gen model, would be assembled locally at TKM’s production facility in Karnataka.
