Fiat India has been testing the Abarth versions of Punto and Avventura quite rigorously in the country. Recently, the folks at Indiancarsbikes spied the later in Pune during its endurance test. It was also revealed that company is testing these mules for 40,000 kms. as they are powered by Linea’s 1.4-litre T-Jet engine, which is retuned to get more power and torque.

Abarth Avventura & Punto Abarth, with the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged T-Jet petrol engine, would have maximum power of 135bhp. However, this engine belts out a maximum power of 112bhp at 5000 rpm and highest torque of 207Nm at 2200rpm with the Linea sedan, while paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Hence, the reason behind this extensive testing of 40,000 kms. is the increased power of 33bhp by re-tuning the engine. The company wants to make sure that that is no problem with the vehicle before it goes into mass production and officially launched. Interestingly, while it is being cooked that Fiat badges would be replaced by the new Scorpion shaped Abarth symbols in these vehicles, the Avventura test mule spied continues to wear the Fiat emblems.

Abarth Avventura
Abarth Avventura, upon its launch, would be the most powerful vehicle in its segment

Fiat India would firstly launch the Abarth Punto by the end of this year and then Avventura’s performance-model would be followed. It won’t have much cosmetic changes like the Abarth Punto. Only the Fiat badges would go for a toss in favour of new Abarth badges, and rest of the vehicle would remain unchanged. As for Punto’s Abarth version, it would have Abarth racing red stripes across the sides, red coloured side mirror caps, Abarth special alloy wheels and no Fiat badging. It is also being speculated that both Abarth Punto and Avventura would be manufactured locally and would come under INR 12 lakhs (on-road) price in the country. Just so you know, Fiat India would also introduce its Jeep brand in India next year with local assembly of new models.
