The war of horses is still at its very best in the high-performance vehicle segment in the auto industry, and heating this further up is a report that states that BMW’s next M5 would deliver 600bhp of monstruous power.

It also adds that the high-performance Bavarian sedan would shed around 100 kgs. of weight due to employing aluminum in the chassis and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic in the body structure.

ust so you know, current-generation BMW M5 comes loaded with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which churns out 552bhp of maximum power. Though, this power output is enhanced in both M5 “30 Jahre” limited edition and M6 Competition Package to 600bhp. It clearly states that the next M5 sedan would have a power close to 650bhp if BMW launches it with any of the aforementioned power packages.

In addition, this time BMW is contemplating an all-wheel-drive (xDrive) version of the M5 as till date they used to be rear-wheel-drive only.

However, it remains to be seen if the company goes for a manual transmission option or a dual-clutch automatic transmission with the new M5.

New BMW M5 as test mule

The test mule snapped here is a pre-production model with panels and parts. However, it does flaunt four exhaust pipes at the rear end. The production-ready version of new M5 is expected to get a bodykit, wheels and interior modifications to distinguish it from its predecessor and the standard 5-Series, upon which it is based on.

Such high-adrenaline rushing sports cars cater to a niche audience and keeping that in mind, the folks from BMW would leave no stone unturned to make it a historic paradise.

For those asking, the current-generation M5 is available in India at a price of INR 1.50 crores (On-Road). BMW M5 is up against the likes of Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Audi RS7 and Jaguar XFR-S.
