Toyota is all set to introduce the new-generation models of its Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV in India next year.

The 2016 Toyota Innova has been spied several times as a test mule on the Indian roads, albeit fully camouflaged. However, recently the folks at Autonetmagz have spied the Innova facelift in Indonesia with a never-seen-before camouflage.

It is expected to make its world première by the end of 2015 in Thailand.

Underpinning the new ladder-frame chassis, the 2016 second-generation Innova would be bigger than the ongoing model. The overall exterior profile has been retained by the company but the new Innova would feature a new design for the rear windows and bigger greenhouse, as seen in the spy-shots. It also indicates that interior spacing would also be greater than the current-generation model. The Innova facelift, when launched in India in 2016, is expected to be priced higher by INR 1-1.5 lakhs than its predecessor. Moreover, it would be retailed to private buyers only in the first year of its sales in the country; no units would be sold for commercial and taxi purposes, as learnt through several reports.

Mechanically, the next-generation Toyota Innova is expected to début the company’s new 2.4-litre, four-cylinder GD diesel engine.

However, the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder D4D ‘KD’ diesel engine on offer with the current models would be replaced for sure. The new ‘GD’ range of diesel engines is claimed to be 10 percent more fuel efficient. These new engines debuted with the Hilux Revo pick-up truck recently. The new Innova would get both six-speed manual as well as automatic transmissions as standard. Toyota would also use the 2.8-litre GD diesel powertrain with the new 2016 Fortuner SUV.
