Land Rover Discovery Sport will be launched in August or September and one of the SUVs was already spotted in Navi Mumbai. The new Discovery Sport will be replacing the currently sold Freelander2 as Land Rover will be discontinuing the Freelander brand itself.

The Discovery Sport will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel and it will made available in two states of tune, one will be 148bhp and the other shall be 187bhp. The petrol will be a 2.0-litre producing about 25bhp of power. These engines will come mated to a nine-speed ZF transmission. These are the same engines that have been offered on Freelander2 and the Evoque. The Discovery Sport will come with five and seven seater options.

The Discovery Sport is based on a brand-new platform and other new Discovery members will also be based on this itself. The Discovery Sport will be priced between INR 49-65 lakhs and it will be competing with the ML-Class, X3 and the Q5. The pricing will be similar to the Evoque but both cater to different buyers. The Discovery Sport is more about utility and the Evoque is about pure luxury. The Volvo XC60 also falls under this same segment, however it is only the Discovery Sport that will be offered with seven-seat option.
