Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has sold over 50,000 units in just 8 months of its launch in the country, reveals an ET report. Just so you know, Maruti Ciaz was launched in October 2014 in the mid-sized sedan segment to take on the likes of Hyundai Verna & Honda City. The company was desperate to gain numbers in this segment after its first two trysts with Baleno and SX failed miserably.

Out of the 50,000 units of Ciaz sold since its launch, around 43,000 have been sold in the domestic market and 9,000 have been exported to cater the demands of international markets. In the first month of its launch, Ciaz showed its magic as it outnumbered the Hyundai Verna in sales. Now, the sedan is inching closer to overtake segment leader Honda City, which has sold around 8000-9000 units consistently since its launch in January 2014. A stats revealed that of the 43,000 units sold in India, 65 percent were purchased by existing Maruti customers. Moreover, it was further revealed that 33 percent of these buyers had Swift or Swift Dzire and they upgraded to Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz would be sold through company’s new premium Nexa dealerships

In a way, it can be said that Ciaz mid-sized sedan brought much needed respite to the company as Maruti wasn’t able to offer anything to customers who opted for premium cars. In its bread and butter compact car space, 71 percent of Maruti Suzuki customers move to another Maruti car and 29% customers migrate from competition. Maruti has started new premium Nixa dealerships across the nation and only premium vehicles such as Ciaz and upcoming S-Cross compact SUV would be sold through these outlets. Recently, the first Nixa dealership was inaugurated in Dwarka, Delhi by Maruti Director R.S Kalsi.
