Honda’s BR-V is likely to be the name for the Brio-based SUV that will be launched in the second half of 2016. One of our sources in South Africa has confirmed that Honda’s Thailand R&D centre has been working on the BR-V and they will be done with the complete testing by this year end. The new BR-V might be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo however the launch might take a while. And so far the top bosses have zeroed down on this name.

The Honda BR-V will be manufactured in India and will be exported to South Africa from India, just like the new Jazz will be. The BR-V will be made available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and the petrol will be the 1.5-litre (with five-speed manual and CVT options) and will also be for export purposes. Honda’s BR-V is at the moment codenamed as 2SJ will be manufactured in Tapukara plant along with the Amaze. The BR-V might not be under four-metres and with Honda’s man maximum machine minimum philosophy, it will be the most spacious compact SUV in its segment. There are multiple changes made on the BR-V to make it look different from the existing Brio family, be it on the outside or the inside.  The design philosophy will also change and it might the styling that the next-generation Brio could have. The price of this SUV will be about INR 8.5-14 lakhs (on-road).

The production plan for this SUV will be about 60,000 annual sales and Honda will be ready with an increased capacity for its Tapukara plant. This plant area is about three times larger than the Greater Noida plant and recently the company had invested about INR 380 crores in it to expand the total production capacity from 2.4 lakh annual units to 3.0 lakh units and increase the workforce by 600. The Gujarat plant is far from being ready.
