If someone had told me that there’d come a day when a video-game session would be good enough to propel us to a seat at a premier racing championship, I’d have laughed. That really is the case though – all thanks to Nissan India who’ve teamed up with PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 6 players, to discover the quickest racers in the country today.

The GT Academy India in Delhi concluded its Live Qualifying on the 7th of June, 2015, where it saw over 800 contestants taking a crack at being the fastest racers. The action has now shifted to Mumbai where racing enthusiasts can pit their skills till the 14th of June at Infinity2, Malad (West). These Live Qualifying rounds shall then move to Bangalore from 19th – 21st June at Phoenix Market City, Whitefield, before concluding in Chennai at Express Avenue, Royapettah from 26th – 28th June. A total of ten winners shall then face-off against ten winners from the Online Qualifier Rounds, to make it to the Indian National Final in July, 2015. The Top Six Racers shall then compete with winners from other nations, for a slot at the Silverstone Race Camp. Arun Malhotra, Managing Director – Nissan Motor India Private Limited was extremely happy to see such a strong response, expressing great satisfaction & pride at fulfilling an Indian’s dream last year, and to continue fulfilling the dreams of many other Indians too.

This year shall also see the launch of a new competition – GT Academy Asia, where participants from Thailand & India who, having been introduced to GT Academy in 2014 shall go up against the best talent from nations such as Indonesia, Philippines and Japan. The winner of this round shall cement their place in history as they go on to race in the prestigious Dubai 24hrs race that’s scheduled to be held in January, 2016. In-fact, this year’s edition of the GT Academy promises to be the largest ever, with gamers from over 24 nations participating and a jaw-dropping 2.2 billion participants expected to try their luck on the track.

So what are you waiting for Mumbai? If you are in town for the weekend, then make your way to Infinity2 Malad and put in your fastest lap yet. Who knows, it might just be the start of a dream run where virtual success powers you to global fame. As the gig moves to Bangalore and Chennai in the coming week, do remember that even if you reside elsewhere in the country, you can still win.
