Lamborghini will be launching the new SUV in 2018 and it will be manufactured on the country’s home turf in Italy itself. The luxury SUV will be the third model in the Lamborghini portfolio and the company has just announced these details about the Urus. The luxury SUV was first showcased at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

Lamborghini will produce this new vehicle in Sant’Agata Bolognese plant and it will invest millions of euros in Europe duting the lifecycle of the new SUV. Lamborghini has made SUVs in the past too, if you recall the V12 powered gas-guzzlers that were majorly exported out of Italy.

This is a joint project between Volkswagen Group companies including Audi and even Bentley. The Bentley Bentayga will be sharing the same platform too, however in the Bentley the focus will be more on luxury and off-roading, while the Lamborghini SUV will be an all-wheel drive with greater emphasis to on road performance.

Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated in a press statement, “ This is a proud moment of everybody in Lamborghini.

The introduction of a third model line endorses the stable and sustainable growth of the company and signifies for us the beginning of a new era. The new SUV will be made in Sant’Agata Bolognese, demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding the values of ‘Made in Italy; worldwide.”

A luxury SUV segment means that Lamborghini will be looking a fast growing segment as performance SUV market is on the rise especially in the Gulf and North America market. There isn’t much scope for it in Europe, but the other markets certainly a bright future.
