Mahindra hatchback will be an electric vehicle, Ford involved?

A Mahindra hatchback you say? Yes, we have heard that Mahindra is the company that will only ever make SUVs. In fact, we heard Mr. Pawan Goenka say during the launch of the new Mahindra Marazzo that, they are a company of SUV manufactures. While that statement is true, Mahindra does have a lot of other areas of interest in the motoring world. That will be the electric side of business.

Now according to one publication, there is a plan for a Mahindra hatchback. And the car is going to be a electric.

The car will be a great way to jump on the electric bandwagon now. Maruti, Toyota and Hyundai have already got big plans for electric vehicles in India drawn up. Tata has already got the Tigor and Tiago EVs planned.

Mahindra hatchback Launch

Now there has been no big public statement or announcement by Mahindra. This is a on-going project with no timeline set. The companies with a timeline are Maruti and Toyota who have a plan to roll out their EVs from 2020. Mahindra, we think would be aiming for such a timeline too.

Mahindra hatchback Platform

Again there is no news on the development and the technicalities that are shared. We do know that Mahindra and Ford have a strategic partnership to make car and share engines in India.

Mahindra and Ford also will want to share the electric space with the Figo EV or something Mahindra will build on it’s own.

Mahindra hatchback Competition

It’s almost all the big players of the market. Everyone is now strongly and highly focused on the electric sector. It has been reported that Mahindra will look at investing at least $200 to $300 million into this whole plan to put out electric vehicles.
