Renault likely to name the XBA as Kayou
The latest news at MotorOctane is that one of our sources has confirmed that Renault has finalised names like Kayou, Kiwak and Kayak. Though no clear message has come from France on this as they are trying to keep the name under the wrap, but the Renault’s latest model XBA is likely to be named as Kayou. It is most likely that Renault has already finalized Kayou.
Kayou in Japanese means to commute and Renault will be unveiling this new hatchback in Chennai, as Renault-Nissan global boss Carlos Ghosn will be revealing the car. The last time Carlos Ghosn was in India, when he had unveiled the Datsun brand with the GO, for the Indian car market and other markets too. Similarly the Renault Kayou will be making a global debut in Chennai, where it will be produced and exported to other markets too.
The Renault Kayou will be tall and seat five people in comfort. It will be made available with two engine options: B4A (800cc petrol engine) and B4D (1000cc petrol engine), with the latter having the option of AMT (automated manual transmission) also. Renault will be looking at introducing the Kayou in three variants and the base model will be priced at INR 2.5-2.75 lakhs on-road, giving direct competition to the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Renault-Nissan had invested $2.5 billion in 2013 to develop and localize the CMF platform in India and this is the first product that will be launched on this new platform. The Datsun RediGO will follow after this and CMF will be utilized to make other larger vehicles too as this is a modular platform.
