Volvo cars in India have the option of enhancing the existing horsepower on their products through ECM re-mapping.

To speak to Volvo representatives at the launch of the XC90, we learnt that this could be done officially if any Volvo customer wants to. There are no plans to get the Polestar and the petrol version of the XC90 at least this year.

As the government is encouraging electric-powered cars, Volvo could consider introducing the XC90 hybrid at a latter stage, sometime next year maybe. At the moment, there are no plans to even introduce the petrol XC90 also. Volvo will commence the deliveries of the XC90 in the next few months.

The Scandinavian automaker will be launching the S60 T6 and the V40 hatchback this year.

Tomas Ernberg, MD, Volvo Auto India at the launch of XC90

The company is confident of increasing its market share with the V40 hatchback and the recently launched V40 Cross Country petrol. The company has a goal of 150 units for this year for the V40 Cross Country petrol. At the moment, V40 Cross Country is at second position in its segment, behind of Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Volvo is looking at increasing its sales in India and at the same time, it is also looking at increasing its dealership network.

Volvo finds the Indian market to have a lot of potential, however at the moment the company has no plans to begin manufacturing in India. Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, told us, “At the moment there are no plans to commence manufacturing in India. Volvo is looking at setting its plants in North America and China at the moment.

After this, they will look into India.”
