Hyundai Styx Name

There is a big rumour that the car will be called the ‘Styx’. It will be a great name for the sub-four meter Hyundai. There was always a possibility that this car will not be called the Hyundai Carlino in India. The car will be called Carlino in the North American/South American market only mostly.

Hyundai Styx Spy Shots

Hyundai has already started testing this new car in the country. Spy shots of the Hyundai Styx testing have surfaced some time back and we had shared them first with you. The car was earlier spotted testing in South Korea and North America recently. With these new shots of the car coming to light, the car looks like it’s is taking a lot of styling and design inspiration from the bigger Hyundai Creta. The car is looking to shape up more in-tune with the Hyundai families design in mind. The rear tail lamps look like they are smaller and sleeker versions of the Creta’s tail lamps.

We don’t know if Hyundai plans to export this car from India to other nations, but it could definitely be a part of the automaker’s plans. The car which is going to go up against the Brezza, EcoSport and the Nexon is shown testing here. The below pictures of the car are from the rear. The car has been spotted testing again. we will add here that the car has a great amount of inspiration from the Creta, and some might look at it as a mini Hyundai Creta.

The below images will give one a proper understanding of the design and size of the car. The car looks like it’s trying to keep up with the Carlino concepts squared off edges and boxy and tall looks. The rear looks inspired by the Creta to no end and the front is a new face with a new grille design.

On the inside, we can see that the car gets  Creta like seats and big storage area in the center console. The seats have adjustable headrests and the car has a full on black interior. This will be changed for production. The car could get a dual tone beige interior like the Creta, It will get buttons and bits on the dashboard that will come from more premium models in the line up.

 Hyundai Styx Design

The compact SUV concept was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as the Hyundai Carlino concept. This SUV had boxy styling. Something normally associated with the traditional looks one wants in an SUV. The final product from the concept’s design is cleaner with sleeker and better lines. That is what even the Creta is all about. If you look at the front of this SUV, you shall notice the large front-grille and sleek headlamps.

Hyundai QXi

If we see the spy shots we can see a lot of the design cues from the concept vehicle have been carried on into the production version of the car. The Hyundai Styx looks like it will be borrowing space and practicality in design from its elder sibling the Hyundai Creta. This is Hyundai’s first compact SUV and Hyundai has delayed its MUV plan to get the one faster. There will be some elements from the Carlino concept; however, this will be an all-new SUV in design. The Hyundai Styx will have technology, function and fashion as it three important pillars. The wheel arches are muscular too.

Hyundai Styx Interior

The Hyundai Styx will have macho looks and not a crossover like the design. The Carlino concept showed squarish wheel arches, large size wheels, high ground clearance (at least 195mm) and aggressive styling. The Styx will be a vehicle for daily work use on weekdays and adventure trips on the weekend. So, it will have good space in both the rows and even the boot space should be better than the competition (Just what Hyundai did with the XCent). The length of the Hyundai Styx will be under four meters.

Hyundai Creta 2017 interiors

On the inside, it will have good enough space in both rows. Hyundai has been focusing on enhancing the rear seat space on most of its products, like the Grand i10, i20 and the XCent. The Grand i10 was modified for the Indian car market to increase its wheelbase and rear seat knee room. The boot size too will be large enough for a vehicle of this segment. One of the best bits will be the features on offer. Hyundai will be offering best-in-class features. Hyundai Styx seating capacity is for 5 people only. The car will get a new dashboard with crisper lines than the large and flowing Creta dashboard. It will get the same infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car will get a good amount of storage spaces too. The Styx could also get a sunroof and 6 airbags in its top variant. This will be a good safety measure and also something Hyundai should offer as Mahindra will be offering 7 airbags on the upcoming XUV300.

Hyundai Styx Specifications

Hyundai has announced that the Styx will be getting a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will make 116bhp of power. This is the same engine that does duty on the i20 abroad. With Ford offering the Ecoboost engine on the Ecosport. This will be an exciting engine for the Indian market. Tata Nexon has been doing well in the Indian market with its petrol engine. Possibly, this will be an example that Hyundai shall be offering lesser power for better mileage. This engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission and there will be an automatic or AMT on offer too. The AMT gearbox could be the one that was offered on the Hyundai Santro recently.

In the diesel, there will be the 1.4-litre diesel producing about 95-100bhp of power. The Hyundai Styx will be sold with these two engines. There will be six-speed manual and even a six-speed automatic transmission that will be offered on both the engines. That is when the compact SUV segment will get something new. There is an option for the petrol automatic but no diesel automatic at the moment. The diesel will be the major seller in this segment. The Korean automaker also has a 1.2-litre diesel engine, but we aren’t certain if that will make it into production anytime soon.

Hyundai Styx Competition

The Hyundai Styx competes with the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Honda WRV, Ford Ecosport and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300. This is one segment that is on the rise and at the moment is one of the fastest growing. Hyundai Styx will add more variety for car buyers and an opportunity to upgrade to an SUV instead of a premium hatchback. Hyundai’s strategy will be to price the vehicle at par with Maruti Suzuki and at the same time even offer more added value for its compact SUV. This has what Hyundai has been with its new products. There is also the Tata Nexon that will compete with the Styx. The Mahindra TUV300 can also be called as competition to this SUV. The competition has now become stiff as other compact SUVs have now upped the game.

There is also the Ford EcoSport and the Honda WR-V, which will be a serious threat to the Styx. These are the new players that have been doing well in the Indian car market. Hyundai will want to counter them all with the new range of its products. Hyundai will be looking at getting the best-in-class space, features, design, performance and mileage on board with the Styx.
