Mercedes-Benz has launched a joint initiative with the leading corporate entities operating in india to increase awareness for Road Safety measures.

This event was flagged off by Jochen Feese, head  of Accident Research, Sensor Functions and Pedestrian Protection- Mercedes-Benz. The event was flagged off at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi and will be touring the country.

“Safe Roads” is a road show that spreads the message of road safety through physical demonstration, visual aids and research reports.  India has the highest number of road fatalities, about 1,40,000 deaths a year. In 2014 itself 6.2million people were part of fatal accidents in India. With “Safe Roads” Mercedes-Benz aims to target the young minds and educated them on the importance of road safety.

The event had a bunch of exhibits that demonstrated the safety measures that Mercedes-benz incorporates in it’s vehicles.

The “Belt Slide” exhibit enables visitors to experience the impact of seat-belts in a simulated crash environment at low speeds.

Airbags were on display too showing people how they work for both the driver and passenger.

The “Beltbag” is something new and unique to Mercedes-Benz that has integrated the airbag and the seat-belt so that a small airbag deploys below the seat belt creating a cushion below the seat belt when a crash occurs.

They even had a car showing which parts have a higher tensile strength and showcase the core elements of the car that can take more damage than the others during a crash.

One of the most unique displays was of the “Alcohol Goggles.” Visitors can wear these goggles simulates the impaired judgement that is experienced when under the influence of alcohol.

The Highlight of he event was the ESF experimental Safety Vehicle . The ESF 2009 was on display and will be on display wherever the show travels to  to showcase a glimpse of the future of safety. “Safe Roads” is a collaborative effort between Mercedes-Benz and JP Research, Apollo hospitals and IIT Delhi. These companies have supported the initiative with a lot of research and information  and data on the existing road safety norms in India.

“Safe Roads” is here to increase the safety awareness of the Indian public. Safe Roads will travel to Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

Mercedes-Benz has had 75 years of experience in passenger car safety development. Jochen Feese said, “Over the years, since 1959, Mercedes-Benz and Safety have become one!

“Safe Roads” is a must visit convention for all new and existing drivers. It is a CSR initiative that will genuinely educate people on what is important when it comes to driving a car on the road and how to react if a crash cannot be avoided.
