Toyota is gearing up to launch the new-generation Innova in India around mid- 2016 and this will be powered by a 2.

4-litre or 2.5-litre diesel engine that will be derived from the currently sold 2.5-litre engine. The new Innova will be lighter, powerful and a lot more fuel-efficient too. The new engine will have a greater turbo boost, better injection and improved torque figures with a power output of about 117bhp.

This engine will come with two transmission options, one will be a five-speed manual and the second will be a five or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The new Toyota Innova’s body will be a lot lighter and stiffer too. The IMV platform has been upgraded with new alloys for better driving dynamics. The new Innova will have bigger dimensions and will be a lot more luxurious too. The Innova’s pricing will be about INR 20-25 lakhs (on-road price) and this will sit between the current Innova and the Fortuner. The current Innova will be renamed as the Innova Cross and it will have a body kit to make it look rugged. This will be powered by a 2.5-litre engine with 100bhp of power and five-speed manual transmission, the same powertrain that already is used on the current Innova.

The new Innova will get a lot more luxurious features and most of this will be shared with the new Fortuner too. The new diesel engine can produce up to 165bhp of power and Toyota will be utilising it on the new Fortuner as well. Both the Innova and the Fortuner will be all-new products for the Japanese car brand. The Hiace is also based on the IMV platform too. This will help Toyota to reduce the production cost in India as there will be a lot of part sharing.
