Mahindra and Mahindra has almost finalised to buy Pininfarina, as the negotiations have reached the final stage as per a report from Autonews. The Indian UV brand is looking at buying a design brand that has designed one of the most iconic cars in the history of automobiles. The list of cars designed by this design house is very long and this includes the Ferrari 250 GT, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider and recently it was the Ferrari California.

There were several potential bidders however the Pininfarina family considers the Indian utility vehicle manufacturer as it has been providing stability to the auto industry through its position. The negotiations are still going on and this could fail as well, as a final verdict is yet to come. We will get the confirmation news sometime in the coming week.

Pininfarina designed Ferrari 250 GT

Pininfarina hasn’t been profitable for 10 years of the last 11 years that have gone by and the family has decided put out the company on sale. The company has been struggling and is in debt as it manufactures cars for other makers, a business division that was shut down three years ago.

Pininfarina’s controlling stakeholder, Pincar Srl had confirmed Mahindra’s interest in buying the Italian brand on the 26th of March. Pininfarina will be another Italian brand sold to a foreign country as majority of the companies struggle to come out of the recession period.

The designer has already worked with Mahindra on the Halo electric sports car concept that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The other car models that Pininfarina has designed also include the Rolls-Royce Camargue, Cadillac Allante and even the Maserati Quattroporte. The company had even diversified to non-automobile projects too, like vending machines, toothbrushes and even apartment towers.
