Audi is looking at introducing the SQ7 on the upcoming generation of the Q7. In a statement by Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi’s head of technical development to the English car magazine Autoexpress states that a faster version of the SQ7 is in the works with a V8 diesel engine and this will get twin electric turbos, something similar to what Audi had showcased on the RS5 TDI e-Concept.

This technology helps to remove the lag forever as the electric turbochargers start spinning at very low engine rpm. This means there will be no turbo lag and the Audi SQ7 will get instant acceleration. This uses the “e-boost” electric motors to spin the turbos much before the exhaust gases get and commence their work.

With the electric boost, the pressure is built up much faster in the turbocharger and this is done without the usual lag in throttle response and Audi says that even a diesel will offer a sharp response. The electric motors spin the turbos up to 3,000rpm and then leave the exhaust gases on their own completely to continue compressing the air into the induction.

This engine will also be powering the Bentley Bentayga, which will also come with a 12-cylinder engine as well. The Bentayga and the Audi Q7 share the same MLB platform. This engine could have a slightly lesser displacement less than 4.2-litre V8 that already powers the Porsche Cayenne S. Audi should introduce the Q7 in India in the second half of 2015.
