Maruti Suzuki has commenced the production of the Celerio ZXi AMT and our friends at GaadiWaadi have spotted this new hatchback variant. AMT stands for automated manual transmission, and this is an affordable substitute for an automatic transmission. The Celerio was only offered with AMT in the mid-variant VXi, now it will also be offered on the top-of-the-line ZXi variant too.

The Celerio ZXi gets more features like in-dash music system, ABS, airbag, steering mounted audio control and Bluetooth connectivity. Maruti Suzuki uses Magneti Mirelli AMT boxes and at the moment about 40 percent of Celerio’s that are sold are AMTs. Maruti Suzuki even uses AMT on the Alto K10, in total manufacturing 4000 units of Celerio and Alto K10 with AMTs. There is a waiting period of about two months for AMT buyers, however this will be solved very soon as Magneti Mirelli is expanding its dealer network. The pricing of the Celrio ZXi AMT should be about Rs 5.5 lakhs (on-road price in Mumbai).

The Celerio will also be launched with a diesel engine, which is a 793cc two-cylinder mill that will produce about 45bhp of power. This is a newly developed diesel engine from Suzuki and will also power the Super Carry, its first LCV for the Indian car market. This engine is likely to return an efficiency of about 30km/l, as per the ARAI cycle. The Celerio is one of the latest products from Maruti Suzuki and has been doing well for the company. The Celerio diesel should have been launched by now, however there were some issues with the diesel as per some reports.
