Honda Amaze SUV: New car to take on the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon

Now you will be wondering what’s up with Honda? Don’t they have the WRV and BRV? The line-up has to have a refresh and a option for everybody. Think of the WRV as the car that will be there to satisfy the needs of i20 Active customers who don’t want a Hyundai. And the BRV will be there for those who want the space of the Ertiga but not a Maruti itself. With these products doing this job correctly, the new cars, that is the upcoming HRV and the rumored to be Honda Amaze SUV will get another job done.

The HRV will be a premium seven seater offering above the BRV and will compete with the Hyundai Creta. The new Amaze SUV will be the car that directly competes with the Maruti Vitrara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. This will be a proper sub-four meter compact SUV that will add more options to the budding Honda line-up. Honda is getting a lot of new cars to India soon.

There is no update or talk about this cars launch date. It’s safe to say at least that it will come in after the HRV and the new Honda Brio. It will come in mostly in the year 2020, which means that by that time we will also see the Honda Civic return to India.

Since it will compete with the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza, we can predict the ballpark pricing this car will get. The Honda Amaze SUV will be priced at around ₹7 to ₹10 lakhs. This kind of competitive pricing will mean that the car will gain more ground from the Nexon and Brezza soon.

The Honda Amaze SUV can be expected to use the GSP platform for this car. The platform underpins the Amaze, Brio, WRV, BRV and the Mobilio. It’s safe to say that using this platform further will be on the table for the Honda Amaze SUV. While it’s too early to comment on the design language of the car, we can say it will borrow a lot of style and design cues from the big CRV. The interior is going to have a better and plusher ambiance than the existing CRV. We will know more about this elusive new SUV in coming months.

Will this car have an all new engine? No. The Honda Amaze SUV will most likely and surely continue using the 1.5-litre diesel and the 1.2-litre petrol engines in this new car. This will be the logical and smart way to go ahead with choosing power trains for the car. The gearbox will be a five speed manual transmission and even though the WRV did not get the CVT option, we expect Honda to give this more premium and up market SUV a automatic unit.

We have seen in the past how Honda likes to position itself as a more premium and better option in the segment to consider. This will mean that the pricing for the Honda Amaze SUV could be a little more than we predicted. We still don’t know how many first in-class features and how many standard options will come in such a car. This will mean that the Honda SUV will still go up against the Ford Ecosport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon.
