There are many cars that go unnoticed from the time they are launched to the time they are discontinued. The masses do not love them. They are only appreciated by the enthusiasts. You’d think that SUVs would not go unnoticed, but believe us many have.

These cars were created with some great features, radical design and were made with a unique buyer in mind. There are many such SUVs that are available or discontinued from sale. So take a look below of the 5 most underrated SUVs ever to go on sale in our country.

Mitsubishi Montero

Montero

The Montero is car that as far as we remember seen in viral videos with wealthy farmers in Punjab using it to plough fields. This car was built to go up against the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. It is the largest car in the Mitsubishi line-up and is true monster. The cars 3.2-litre in-line four engine makes around 190bhp and 441Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a five speed torque converter automatic transmission with four-wheel drive and sports mode. This very intimidating and capable car never got the attention of the masses and the enthusiasts because of its steep asking price of 82 lakhs. The car was only reduced to a premium purchase for chauffer driven customers.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

Chevrolet Trailblazer side profile

The Trailblazer can be said as Chevrolets last hurrah in the Indian car market. The car is based on and shares many features with the Isuzu MU-X. The car was a great choice to have and ticked many boxes. The car came with two engine options, both diesels. There was the 2.5-litre Duramax that made 150bhp and 250Nm of torque and there was the optional 2.8-litre Duramax that made 180bhp and 470Nm of torque. The car is a hit in other South Asian countries but could not do wonders for Chevy in India.

Chevrolet Forester

Chevrolet Forester

This car was a rare gem in the heap of metal plying on our countries roads. A 2-litre engine that made 120bhp and a cool 180Nm of power, a five-speed manual and AWD(all wheel drive). And it had a body design that leaned more towards a wagon than a SUV.

This car was seriously the stuff of dreams. The wagon design has really never caught in India and we can do a whole story on how many great cars like this came and failed. This appealed only to the buyers who had a different taste and the enthusiasts in our country.

Mahindra Armada

Armada

There is still a lot of speculation in the industry that the Armada will make a comeback in the form of a four door Mahindra Thar. But we can’t be certain about that. What we know is that it would be the definitive answer to the American Jeep Wrangler. The old Armada was also a great choice. The car served dutifully in the interiors of our country and helped Mahindra in understanding SUVs in a big way. Its appeal never caught on in major cities and was a stepping stone for Mahindra in the SUV game. This cars mantle was picked up by the Mahindra Bolero which spawned its own versions like the hardcore Invader and Bolero Camper in the future.

Tata Sierra

tata-sierra

The Tata Sierra was the SUV! The first experience we had of an Indian manufacturer dabbling in the world of lifestyle/sports utility vehicles. The car was way ahead of its time. There was a 2-litre diesel engine in turbo and non-turbo formats. It had four wheel drive and had a three door body style. This thing really put the SPORTS in SUV. Even though the Sierra was on sale for a decade, it did not really set the sales numbers on fire.
