New Hyundai micro-SUV coming: Will compete with Renault Kwid

SUVs are taking over in a big way. The regular hatchbacks and sedans are seeing their day’s numbered. In North America, Ford has announced that they will only be making SUVs and pick-up trucks along with the performance line up of the Mustang. Here at home, Mahindra is investing more into new showrooms that shout the brands personality of being an SUV manufacturer. More people are optioning to buy a compact SUV over a regular sedan. Such a demand has now lead us to the Hyundai micro-SUV.

Now slowly we are seeing ‘cross style’ variants of hatchbacks too.

Manufactures like Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Toyota and Fiat want their cars to look more like an SUV. These cars are also proving to be more utilitarian and practical.

Hyundai micro-SUV

Hyundai has told one publication that they are planning to bring out a micro-SUV which will rival the Renault Kwid. The model in question will be positioned under Hyundai’s upcoming Carlino concept-based sub-four meter SUV. This is a bold move. The car is an SUV challenging a small car with SUV looks.

The Hyundai micro SUV could be also a response to Maruti Suzuki’s own micro SUV – the production version of the Future-S Concept from Auto Expo 2018. Currently under development, this new body style from Maruti (codename: Y1K) will launch in 2020.

Anyways, the Hyundai micro-SUV is expected to be a feature loaded car that can add premiumness to the segment and also thrash the Kwid with more features. It will use the 800cc or 1000cc engines from Hyundai’s stable. The car will also mean that the Eon will be rendered useless. The introduction of this Hyundai micro-SUV will mean that the Eon see an end of production. The car will come mostly after 2020.
